GUIDELINES

Eligibility

All Kobe Basketball Academy Campers must be between the ages of 8 and 18 years old. Boys and girls welcome. Campers may not be high school graduates.

Day Campers

Day Campers participate in all of the activities of the camp at a reduced rate. Day campers commute to the camp each day and should bring all the necessary gear and apparel each day in an athletic bag. All Day Campers will be required to report to camp at 8:45am each day and should be picked up around 9:00pm. Day Campers have the right to eat breakfast daily if they choose to and are required to eat lunch and dinner at the dining hall with Overnight Campers. If the camper chooses to eat breakfast with Overnight Campers, drop off time at the cafeteria should be such that the camper has sufficient time for breakfast. Day campers should not bring watches, radios, MP3 players, telecommunications devices, automobiles and other items. The Kobe Basketball Academy will not be responsible for lost or stolen items.

Night Campers

Overnight Campers must bring the following to camp: towels, washcloths, personal hygiene items, sheets, blankets, sleeping bags, pillows, basketball footwear, socks, shorts, t-shirts, warm clothing (Sweat suit, hooded sweatshirt, etc.) athletic bag and alarm clock. Overnight Campers should also bring a change of clothes for each day and/or detergent for washing clothes. It is recommended that each camper’s apparel is marked with the person’s name to avoid confusion over items. Overnight campers should not bring watches, radios, MP3 players, televisions, telecommunications devices, automobiles, computers and/or other items. The Kobe Basketball Academy will not be responsible for lost or stolen items.

Cancellation Policy

For cancellation before June 9th, the camper will receive a partial refund with a $200 administration fee deducted from original cost. There will be no refunds for cancellations after June 9th.

Roommate Requests

All roommate requests MUST be made on or before June 9th. Any requests made after June 20th will not be guaranteed. Kobe Basketball Academy will make every effort to accommodate camper roommate requests. However, there will be no roommate request granted on registration day.

Discipline

Violations of camp regulations such as willful damage to UCSB property and inappropriate behavior deemed detrimental to the camp and campers will result in immediate dismissal from the Kobe Basketball Academy. There will be no refund of registration fees should a camper be dismissed from camp.

Location & Facilities

Kobe Basketball Academy will be conducted on the beautiful campus of UC Santa Barbara. Located in Santa Barbara, California near the beach communities of Goleta and Isla Vista. 

UCSB has the finest gyms and recreation centers. Games will be played indoors and outdoors. To learn more about UCSB, please visit the campus website at www.ucsb.edu.

Insurance & Medical Care

Campers must provide their own medical insurance. Professional medical trainers are on duty at all times. Doctors are on constant call and hospital facilities are readily accessible. Because of the rigorous daily schedule, each camper should come to camp in excellent condition. Every conceivable effort is made to protect the camper’s health and safety through the extensive training of our medical staff, constant inspection of equipment, and supervision. Cost of treatment of injuries and hospitalization for illness or injuries while attending the Kobe Basketball Academy will be the responsibility of the parent or guardian of the participant. Any Insurance carried by the parent or guardian may be used to defray such medical and hospital costs. The camp staff assumes no responsibility for accidents or illness. We will not accept a camper with pre-existing medical problems unless we have been notified prior to registration. Please fill in the proper information on the application. The camper will not be admitted to the camp without the proper insurance information and signature of parent or guardian. Should he/she require any special medical attention or is required to take any special medicine; the camp director requires that you document such needs. Please attach such information to your camp application. 

Kobe Bryant will be on-site conducting lectures, instructing, interacting with campers and demonstrating basketball drills. Each camper will receive a team photo with Kobe and one signed personal autograph from Kobe. No non-NBA licensed Adidas items will be signed. Kobe Basketball Academy will not be responsible for lost or stolen signed or unsigned items and paraphernalia.

FAQ

Campers have the option to buy gear (shorts, shoes, shirts), as well as additional snacks and beverages while at camp. Additional funds will be necessary for these purchases; however, the amount of money given to the campers is solely up to the parent. (Vouchers will be available for purchase at check-in)

All Overnight campers will be staying on the beautiful campus of University California Santa Barbara (UCSB). The location on the campus will be the Tropicana Dorms.

Should the cancellation request be received on or prior to (a month before 2015 camp. Whenever that date is), a refund will be provided minus a $200 administration fee. No refunds will be provided for cancelations after (2015 date)

Payment options are not available. All funds are due at the time of registration.

Yes. However, KBA does not grant scholarships. We work through local youth organizations and grant an allotment to those organizations.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided to all campers at no cost.

Note: If your child is a day camper, you must drop them off at the dorms by 8am each morning to eat breakfast with the other campers.

We do not take teammate requests. Teams are created based on age, height and skill level. Our goal is to create new friendships, teammates and interactions within our registrants.

Yes. When you register for camp, submit the name(s) of those you wish to room with. And, have them select you too. If this is done early in the registration process, we should be able to accommodate you and your friends.

Yes. However, if you are not at camp we will not guarantee the same benefits of being present. KBA staff, coaches, administration, etc. will not be liable for delivering any goods or services for families that decide to attend after camp begins or leave before camp has ended.

Yes, if your child is registered at camp, you will be able to attend games and practice in the designated visitor areas.

No. Unfortunately, there are no discounts for KBA.

Campers have the opportunity to learn the basketball fundamentals such as shooting, dribbling, rebounding, passing and defense to name a few. They will also learn the basic movements and variations of an offense.

Once you apply to KBA, you will receive a confirmation from paypal. As we get closer to the date of camp we will email confirmation emails. Please do not contact our camp office to request camp acceptance.

Overnight Camper registration check-in is from 2:30pm – 4:00pm on July 9th, 2014. Overnight Campers will be provided Shuttle Service to and from the Santa Barbara Airport only!

Day Camper registration check-in is from 1:00pm – 4:00pm on July 9th, 2014. If you desire to pick up your Day Camper earlier than 9:00 pm, you will have to complete a release form.You will have to present a valid form of ID.We can only release the Day Camper to the parent or guardian who is designated on the camp application.

All Overnight campers will be staying on the beautiful campus of University California Santa Barbara (UCSB) – Tropicana Gardens Dorms – 6585 El Colegio Road Goleta, CA

2 campers per room this year.This is different than past years, but we feel it is an improvement and should help campers and parents be more comfortable.

We do not offer transportation to Day Campers that are traveling from a Hotel.The Kobe Basketball Academy will not be responsible for Campers who sleep in local hotels.

Parents, family and/or friends of campers enrolled at the KBA are welcome to observe the opening orientation.This session takes place from approximately 4pm to 5pm at the UCSB Events Center.Should you wish to observe the KBA activities during the remainder of the week, we will have schedules posted daily with viewing areas for parents.

When you registered online, you checked the medial waiver and liability release box, which will suffice for registration.We do ask that you print a copy and complete to send with your child; especially if your child has a special medical condition.
